John and Kathy are very interesting and very musical people. John compiled some great songs that meant a lot to them, as well as some audio from a live mic in the delivery room. They wanted a very special cover to encase this recording and to serve as a birth announcement with the CD-R's to be distributed with the announcement. We thought that a quadruple fold cover would do the trick. I started by playing around with some of Kathy's favorite colors. Then, I created some playful icons to use in the design that hadn't really taken shape yet. I began writing down some common complaints new parents make about the sudden change in their lives. Pondering these complaints, I reflected back on my own experiences and realized that they don't mean a damn thing when compared to the incredible feeling of love you have for your child. When the cover finally opens up to the last panel, after posing three dubious questions, it reminds us of that love and how much it cleanses away the hardships and toils of parenthood.
